PROJECT SUMMARY:
This project entailed the thoughtful renovation of an early 1900s industrial building on 5th Avenue in Historic Downtown Knoxville, transforming a former ice cream factory into the office headquarters for SVN Wood Properties. The design preserves the building’s original masonry, industrial scale, and generous volumes while introducing a contemporary workplace tailored to modern office needs. Interior spaces were reconfigured to support collaboration, meetings, and efficient circulation, balancing respect for the historic fabric with current programmatic demands.

Material continuity and selective modern insertions reinforce the building’s identity, creating a layered environment where historic character and contemporary work life coexist. Exposed structural elements, strategic daylighting, and refined finishes support a productive office setting while contributing to the ongoing vitality of downtown Knoxville.
